Model on Rail Road Tracks with Nikon CLS
Just testing out some basic poses to try and play around with light and shadow. I'm really interested in adding more lights to my arsenal, because I feel a need for accent lighting, kickers, etc. etc.So, bear with me while I experiment! Experiment results #1: Shoot everything manual, and shoot RAW. Auto exposure and TTL flash is just no good when you're shooting in static, controllable situations like this. Especially when you want to shoot 20 shots in the same exact light when you're trying to "work it" with the model, ya know?
Take care,D300, 17-55, circular polarizer, off-camera SB800 commanded in manual mode.
(plus a little touch of sunlight hitting the other side of her face, bonus!)The action, with expert location / wedding photographer Hanssie Trainor getting her shot...
Nikon D300, Sigma 50-150 2.8, off-camera SB800 commanded in manual mode...

oooh, those are fierce! great shots.
I love that first one! Tight.
Look at Hanssie go!
My sister's awesome.
I'm AMAZED at how fast these went up...what ever happened to those ones you took in the cave?
@i_wish_i_were_a_penguin - I declared blog bankruptcy.
(Don't worry, I'll get to them... Some time this spring...)

first photo is bangin hot. nice use of off camera flash =)
Wonderful images Matt especially the first. Did you meter for the surroundings and then adjust the strength of the flash until it looked good? Also, did you use any light modifiers like umbrella/softbox etc?
Thanks and apologies for the anal questions
Yay! I finally made it on Matty's blog!
"What are we gonna do now, Brain?"
@Hanssie - The same thing we do every night, Pinky... TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLDDDDD!
@hoddo - Yes, I shoot in manual and expose for the background. (under-expose for the background, heheh.) Then I dial the flash up or down, or move it back and forth, until it's good.
For this shot, I didn't use any diffusion. I'm trying to work a lot more with diffusion though, just need to make the time...
