Sick this weekend, Little Corona Photos...
I've caught a winter cold this weekend apparently. Last weekend I met up with my favorite photography couple, Kristin & Jonathan. Kristin is an amazing wedding and portrait photographer, Jonathan is an amazing landscape photographer...I still feel rusty when it comes to nature photography. I need to get out on a more regular basis. I definitely need a better lens for landscape photography as well; my 17-55 2.8 is really not made for stopping down; it's made for shooting wide open. That's perfect for weddings and events, I couldn't ask for a better lens. But for landscapes... I hope I can get the money for a 12-24 DX before Joy & I go on our honeymoon; that would really come in handy...
So like I said, I feel rusty. I hope I can be forgiven for re-visiting the "same ol beach" for now, and taking generic-ish pictures. I'm just trying to keep my eyes sharp!

Nikon D300, Nikon 17-55, tripod, circular polarizer, don't remember if I used a GND filter...

I love the second and third shots! The second has a lot of dynamic range too, great stuff. I think I would have liked a slightly longer, say 1/100 or 1/50 ish for the third (wave) shot though. I feel as if it's a bit too stopped. I like the slightly smoothed but still frozen and dynamic look.
I love the plants in the first shot; there's something about the way they catch the light that makes them look just perfect, like they were placed under exact lights in a studio or something... And the color in the sunset wave is gorgeous, is that natural or added in? And of course, the last one with the light writing is just fun and sweet (cuz it says 'Joy').

YEAH!!!! I LOVE your pictures!!
matt, you're too humble for your own good. but humility is a good trait to have! i love your nature photography NOW, so i can't imagine how much more awesome they'll be in the future. keep on keepin on!
Feel better soon -- these are beautiful, even if they are the 'same old beach.'
Get well fast my friend! Those photographs are beautiful ! If I had my way I would roam the land capturing all the magnificence of God's Creations!
Blessings on you and Joy
Jim
i always enjoy your landscape work. great job
Beautiful shots matthew! I especially like the one with the wave. Great feeling in that shot.
anyone who can put on a "light show" and create something like the last picture has mad skills and talent!
get better soon!
Matt, I hate you! These images are gorgeous! Will I be this good after watching your lighting DVD? Please say yes.
beautiful, as always. And with nature, the same ol, is always changing...seasons, light, weather, color etc . Love the gold wave, the 1st one with the sculpture like agave, and the joy light show made me smile!
Well, I guess I have to forgive you since your images freaking rock as always.
And when are you going to do a blog post about me, your favorite (er kinda) female photographer??
Okay.. you are so stinking sweet to us! Thank you.
I loved these images. That one with the plant has such great color and crispness! It was fun running into you and grabbing dinner. Now you know our favorite little spot for chicken pizza and pasta salad.
I was fun watching you do that Joy picture. Quite the little work out
IF YOU WANT A FRESH LOCATION...this weekend there is another crazy low tide in the afternoons
and if you don't mind 275 stairs I know a place you'll LOVE!
@hxpham - I know what you mean. Sometimes I like to go slightly blurred, and sometimes I like to just totally freeze it. I should experiment next time and do both, of course...

@TwoPts4Honesty - About the color in the waves- I hardly ever increase the saturation in my images, I only like to optimize the contrast and brightness, that's it. If you ever take a moment to watch waves break right at sunset, you'll know that it is not just this colorful, but far more beautiful to see in motion!

@EContradiction - @slmret - @jisenhart - @gods_girly_92 -
Thanks for such kind words, everybody!

@kimnodurft - Sadly, they don't teach you about "writing" with light in any workshop DVD that I've ever watched.
However, learning it is as simple as getting a tripod and a flashlight! Play around!
Take care, (And has it arrived yet? It shipped last Monday or something...)

Yes, it's here! I'm just trying to clear my schedule long enough to watch it uninterrupted. :) Tony Corbel taught me to write with light a few years ago. It's so cool! But I really love your other images too.
Matt, these turned out great as usual! Love the 1st plant shot and you had some beautiful skies to work with, especially in the 2nd image. That painting with the light is too cool. -Mike
I love the Joy pic. Y'all are so sweet. The question is, how did you do it?? Text me!
