  • Conclusion...

Again, this is the kind of portraiture that I live for.  Relaxed, natural, REAL.

Someone asked me the other day, or I guess we were just talking and I got the impression that it was assumed, that eventually I, like all other portrait photographers who "arrive", would own my own studio.

This thought shocked me.  I LOVE the outdoors.  I live for beautiful, NATURAL light.

Aspire to own a studio?  The outdoors IS my studio.  I aspire to capture just a fleeting glimpse of the beauty around us, and the compassion revealed IN US when we step outside our digital world, into the organic one...

I'm thrilled to be able to work with so many people who feel the same connections with nature.  THANK YOU ALL!!

    Take care,
    =Matt=

  • yeah,  but you'd still love a studio,  somewhere in the woods  where the only noise was the light trickle of rain on the roof  and birds in the trees.

These are really nice, out of the two, I choose the second,  it is simple... yet converses with me more than the first,  between the two,  the second communicates the moment,  where the first is a photo.  if you get my drift.

The first,  is just how all new people are with the camera..  so it seems.

  • who is the fool but he who attempts to imitate the scenery and light of nature with backdrops and flash bulbs.

  • I like that line you wrote - "The outdoors is my studio." I think I'll use that next time someone wants a studio shot :)

  • I like both ourdoor and studio for different reasons and different clients. I love the interaction of #2 and the back drop and bench of #1 is just lovely.

    How are you guys?

  • Exactly... :]

    Beautiful, as always.

  • beautiful as usual

  • The first one is quite the backbone to your reaction. There is no way a studio could get that. If one is not going for that look, that's fine, but if there are they had better be outside...

That second photo rings to me as someone seeing that moment where they thought it was just the two of them, letting themselves into a smile of embrace. The distortion to the area around them really paints the momentary loss of the world around them as it becomes simply the person in front of them.

    Amazing, Matt.

  • I've got to say Matt, you did an AMAZING job at my sister's wedding. She is so lucky to have you as her photographer, traveling across the country to photograph her wedding. You did a fantastic job (as always - but especially for her) and it was fun to hang out with you. All the photos were beautifully composed, and every moment was captured. IMHO, Naomi and Jody's wedding is your best photography ever. Of course, that might have to do with the subjects therein... since my sister is the most beautiful (and creative) bride ever to walk the North Georgia Mountains...

  • I love the first on the most... everything is so colorful and crisp. That background is stunning. IT makes me want to move! Really good pictures!! :)
